The first edition of the World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit, aka WAVES, is being held at the Jio World Center in Mumbai from May 1st to 4th. The event brings under one fold creators and industry experts from across the M&E industry, including films, OTT, broadcast, and AVGC-XR (Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics, and Extended Reality). The star-studded summit was inaugurated by PM Modi. The who’s who of the Indian film industry made their presence felt at the event. During the event, Bollywood’s Badshah, Shah Rukh Khan, aka SRK; director Karan Johar, aka KJO; and Deepika Padukone sat for a chat in a session entitled ‘The Journey: From Outsider to Ruler.’ The 39-year-old actor made her Bollywood debut opposite Shah Rukh Khan in 2007 in the blockbuster Om Shanti Om.
During the conversation that was moderated by Karan Johar, SRK made a remark about Deepika that made her chuckle, even as the audience applauded. King Khan (as he is fondly called by fans) quipped,
I just want to add one more thing, which is very personal, so please excuse me if I’m stepping beyond boundaries. But I think the role she’s going to play the best, Inshallah, is that of a mother now with Dua.
SRK added,
I think she’s really going to be a wonderful mother.
Deepika Padukone married actor Ranveer Singh in 2018. The couple have a daughter, Dua Padukone Singh, who was born on September 8, 2024.
During the chat, Deepika Padukone reflected on her journey to tinsel town at the tender age of 18. The Chennai Express (2013) star remarked,
For an 18-year-old to move to a big city. It was a big decision to make. Those little things, having to navigate life with trial and error.
She added,
Overall, when I look back, I say, not bad, well done.”
