Bollywood singer Udit Narayan is currently in the bad books of the netizens due to his kiss controversy. Recently a video of his locking lips with his female fans without their consent, during a live performance, took the internet by surprise. While they haven’t forgiven him for it, he is also facing new legal trouble. According to a new Free Press Journal report, Ranjana Jha, his first wife, had filed a maintenance case against him.
Jha has also accused him of violating her rights and usurping her property. On February 21, he attended a hearing on the same matter at the Supaul Family Court. However, he stood firm on his decision and has declined any settlement in the case. Quoting a report by the Navbharat Times, the media publication states that Narayan has alleged that his first wife is trying to extort money from him. Earlier, a case was filed against the singer with the Bihar Women’s Commission which was resolved through a settlement agreement back then.

According to the media publication, the 69-year-old singer has been supporting Jha financially by giving her Rs 15,000 per month. In 2021, the amount was increased to Rs 25,000. Reportedly, he also provided her with farmland and a house worth Rs 1 crore. It was also found out by Bihar Women’s Commission, that Narayan had given her jewellery worth Rs 25 lakh as well as a piece of land, which she later decided to sell.
Through her lawyer, Ranjana expressed that as she grows older and her health declines, she wants to be with the singer. It is her heartfelt wish to spend the rest of her life with her husband. Opening up about her side of the story, during an interview with the media, she revealed that she feels ignored by him. She went on to claim that he kept Rs 18 lakh from the sale of their land and alleged that whenever she visits Mumbai, she has to face threats and intimidation, which make her feel unsafe.

Talking about Udit Narayan and Ranjana Jha’s marriage, they tied the knot in 1984. However, their relationship started straining after his career took off. She claimed that he gradually distanced himself from her and stopped acknowledging their marriage, abandoning her in the process. In 2006, she had approached the Women’s Commission in hopes of getting some security. While he reportedly initially assured her of financial security and a home. She later alleged that those promises were never kept. He went on to marry Deepa Narayan Jha in 1985. They have a son together, singer Aaditya Narayan.
