American actress and singer, Selena Gomez has always been vocal about immigration rights and has even advocated for the same. During an earlier interview, she had revealed that her aunt was the first person to cross the US-Mexico border in 1970, after whom her grandparents had followed. On Monday night, she took to her official social media handle to express her sadness over US President Donald Trump’s decision to deport illegal immigrants from the country.
In the now-deleted heartbreaking video, Gomez cried inconsolably as she grieved for the people who were being attacked. She expressed how she was feeling helpless. In the video that has now gone viral on social media, she is heard saying through her sobs and sniffles, “All my people are getting attacked, the children. I don’t understand. I’m so sorry, I wish I could do something but I can’t. I don’t know what to do. I’ll try everything, I promise.” She proceeded to write “I’m sorry (Mexican flag emoji).”

However, as soon as she shaheed the video and it went viral, a section of the internet brutally trolled her. She was subjected to a barrage of hate for speaking against Trump’s immigrating crackdown. Fed up with the negative response and a lack of empathy from others, she later deleted the video. After deleting the video, she wrote on Instagram, “Apparently it’s not ok to show empathy for people.”

It is to be noted that the video came hours after the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) reportedly arrested 956 individuals in a nationwide crackdown, which was ordered by President Trump.

Being an advocate for immigration rights, Selena Gomez also produced a documentary called Living Undocumented, where they showcased trials and tribulations of eight illegal immigrant families living in the US during Trump’s administration.
