Mazagon Dock shares fall 5% as Q1 profit drops to ₹452 cr

Shares of Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders fell 5.16 per cent in early trade on Tuesday after posting a 35 per cent y-o-y decrease in consolidated net profit for the June quarter to ₹452.15 crore from ₹696.10 crore during the April-June quarter of the previous fiscal.

However, its revenue from operations rose 11.4 per cent y-o-y to ₹2,625.59 crore during the quarter under review compared to ₹2,357.02 crore in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal.

Meanwhile, total expenses was up 35 per cent to ₹2,348.05 crore in the June quarter compared to ₹1,739.23 crore a year ago.

The company had earlier said it would acquire a controlling stake in Colombo Dockyard PLC with an investment not exceeding ₹452 crore.

The Mumbai-headquartered shipbuilder empahsised that the acquisition will enable the company to strengthen its position in the ship repair and shipbuilding industry by unlocking operational synergies, enhancing research and development capacities and expanding market reach.

The stock declined 4.23 per cent to ₹2,672 as at 10.17 am on the NSE, hitting an early low of ₹2,645.90 against the previous close of ₹2,789.90.
