Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar is currently gearing up for the release of Akshay Kumar starrer Kesari Chapter 2: The Untold Story Of Jallianwala Bagh. During a press conference hosted in Mumbai, for the film, he furiously reacted to General Dyer’s granddaughter’s viral video, where she called the victims of the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre of 1991 ‘looters’. For those who don’t know, the film centers around the legal battle fought between lawyer C Sankaran Nair and the British Empire after the massacre took the lives of thousands of people.
Recently a video of Dyer’s granddaughter had surfaced on the internet where, despite being the family of a victim of the horrendous massacre, she called the victim a ‘looter’. Now reacting to the video, Karan expressed his anger and disgust. When asked if he had seen the video, quoted by the Hindustan Times, the filmmaker said, “Not just as an Indian or as a humanitarian, but anyone who has an iota of empathy or humanity within themselves, it will anger you.”

The 52-year-old filmmaker shared how he doesn’t want to “mince” his words or be “diplomatic” about it or “beat around the bush.” He went on to question, “How ridiculous she is to say that and how dare she? She was calling those thousands of people looters?” He added that the people who had gathered at the Jallianwala Bagh during that fateful day in 1919, had gathered there for the auspicious occasion of Baisakhi.
Johar went on to mention that General Dyer had admitted that he had only “stopped shooting when the bullets ran out.” Bringing the topic back to the granddaughter, he slammed her for saying that Dyer loved Indian and that he had the “greatest compassion.” “What love can you have in your heart when your actions only spoke of hate? The fact that she is in a la la land of her own and in some delusion, I don’t know her or met her, and I don’t wish to meet her,” he added.

Expressing his anger, the Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani director added, “The fact that she has even said those things, makes me so angry on a humanitarian level. Khoon khaulta hai jab maine wo video dekha with the fact that she has such disdain for one of the biggest genocides in the history of our nation and the world. The fact that she was disdainful of it makes me just angry and want to demand an apology even more.”
Produced by Dharma Productions, Cape of Good Films, and Leo Media Collective, Kesari Chapter 2: The Untold Story Of Jallianwala Bagh will hit the theatres on April 18th, 2025. Directed by Karan Singh Tyagi, the film stars Akshay Kumar, R. Madhavan and Ananya Panday. It is based on the life of Sir C Sankaran Nair, a fearless lawyer who pledged to take on the British Empire after the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre.
