The Pahalgam terror attack left the country reeling with shock, grief and rage as it killed more than 26 innocent civilians and left many others traumatised and injured. Amidst it all, Pakistani actor Fawad Khan’s much-awaited Bollywood comeback film Abir Gulaal faced a lot of outrage and negative criticisms. Despite the team condemning the horrendous act, actress Vaani Kapoor was brutally trolled for continuing with the film’s promotions. With it being banned from release in India, she has now also deleted all the promotional posts of the film, which also featured Khan.
Kapoor was on the receiving end of severe criticism ever since the film was announced, she was slammed by the netizens for working with the Pakistani actor, despite the political history between the two countries. The condition worsened after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which led to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting officially announcing a band on the project from being released in India.

For those who don’t know, Abir Gulaal would have marked Fawad’s return to Bollywood after nine years as there had been a ban on Pakistani actors working in Indian films since 2016, after the Uri attack, due to political disputes between the two countries. It was in 2023, that the Bombay High Court dismissed a petition that officially sought a ban on Pakistani artists working in India. He was last seen in Bollywood films Kapoor & Sons (2016) and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (2016).

Directed by Aarti S. Bagdi, Abir Gulaal is produced by Indian Stories and A Richer Lens in association with Aarjay Pictures. Starring Fawad Khan and Vaani Kapoor, the film will be released on the big screens on May 9, 2025.
