Released on April 18, 2025, the 106th anniversary of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, Kesari Chapter 2, the Akshay Kumar-starrer movie, minted Rs 7.5 crore on the first day of box office, per reports.
The historical courtroom drama Kesari Chapter 2: The Untold Story of Jallianwala Bagh features Akshay Kumar in the lead role. The star portrays Sir Chettur Sankaran Nair, a member of the Indian National Congress, who fought against a senior British Raj official in the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre case. The movie is adapted from a 2019 book by Nair’s grandson Raghu Palat and wife Pushpa Palat, entitled The Case That Shook The Empire: One Man’s Fight For The Truth About The Jallianwala Bagh Massacre.
Akshay Kumar also starred in the first movie in the franchise, titled Kesari, released in 2019. The Anurag Singh directorial told the legendary story of the Battle of Saragarhi, which was a battle between 21 Sikh soldiers and the British Indian Army along with local tribes.
The total business of Kesari’s first chapter was Rs 2017 worldwide. Analysts and trade pundits believe the chapter two in the Kesari series will outdo its predecessor, backed by rock-solid performances and a meticulous script.
