Amid the Marathi language row in Maharashtra, Bollywood filmmaker and actor Aamir Khan has revealed that he learn the language a little later in life. Known as Mr Perfectionist, the actor often takes his time studying, researching, and working on his projects before presenting it to the audience. During a recent interaction with the news agency IANS, he recalled how he learnt the Marathi language at the age of 44 because he didn’t pay attention in school during Marathi lessons.
Revealing why he felt it was important for one to know their state language, the Free Press Journal quoted the 60-year-old actor saying, “When I was around 44, I realised that I do not know the Marathi language. Although Marathi is taught in school, I did not pay much attention. I felt that it was a matter of shame that I did not know my Rajyabhasha.”

He went on to add that this led to him hiring a Marathi teacher and learning the language from him. Explaining that he can speak “decent” Marathi now, he also highlighted the importance of knowing multiple languages as it will always be “beneficial.” “I am a little weak when it comes to languages. It takes me a lot of time to learn a new language,” he added.
Last seen on the big screen in Sitaare Zameen Par, the R.S. Prasanna directorial marked the debut of 10 specially-abled actors – Aroush Datta, Gopi Krishna Varma, Samvit Desai, Vedant Sharma, Ayush Bhansali, Ashish Pendse, Rishi Shahani, Rishabh Jain, Naman Mishra, and Simran Mangeshkar. The movie also stars Genelia Deshmukh. Produced by Khan himself, the slice-of-life sports drama is said to be a spiritual sequel to his 2007 film Taare Zameen Par. The film was released on the big screens on June 20, 2025.

Aamir Khan will be next seen in Rajinikanth’s upcoming film Coolie. It is to be noted that the film is a part of Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU) along with Kaithi, Vikram, Leo, and Benz, which has yet to be released. Scheduled for a release on August 14, Coolie, headlined by Rajinikanth, will be clashing at the box office with Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR, and Kiara Advani starrer WAR 2. He has also confirmed to headline Rajkumar Hirani’s upcoming film, a biopic on Dadasaheb Phalke, the father of Indian cinema.
