Vodafone Idea shares tumbled 9.32 per cent to ₹6.71 during morning trade on Monday after Minister of State for Communications Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani categorically stated that the telecom department would not provide any relief to the company regarding adjusted gross revenue (AGR) dues.
The stock opened at ₹7.10 against the previous close of ₹7.40 and touched an intraday low of ₹6.60. At 11.40 AM, the shares were trading down ₹0.69, with heavy selling pressure evident as sell quantity stood at 7.51 crore shares against buy quantity of 7.62 crore shares.
The minister’s statement effectively dashed market hopes for any government intervention that could ease Vodafone Idea’s financial burden. The company has been grappling with substantial AGR liabilities that have strained its balance sheet and operational capabilities.
Trading activity remained robust with 87.14 lakh shares worth ₹591.70 crore changing hands during the morning session. The stock’s 52-week high stands at ₹16.55 recorded in August 2024, while it hit a 52-week low of ₹6.12 earlier this month.
Vodafone Idea’s market capitalization has shrunk to ₹72,806.52 crore, with the stock displaying high volatility at 66.49 per cent on an annualized basis. The company’s shares have been under consistent selling pressure as investors remain concerned about its debt servicing capabilities and long-term viability without regulatory support.
