Jennifer Lopez Sued By Paparazzi Agency For Rs 1.28 Crore For Using Their Photos Without Permission

Hollywood singer and actress Jennifer Lopez has made a name for herself in the entertainment industry over the years. She enjoys a huge fan following worldwide. Being an avid social media user, she often takes to her official handles to share photos from the events she attends and the outings she goes on. It seems like that has gotten her into huge trouble. According to a Free Press Journal report, on Wednesday, she was recently sued by a paparazzi agency.

The media publication states that the agency sued her for using their photos on her social media platforms without getting due permission from the photographer. They have reportedly sought $150,000, which, converted to INR, is Rs 1.28 crore, in damages for each image. The lawsuit has been filed by Edwin Blanco, the photographer, and his agency, Backgrid. They claimed that the singer posted their copyrighted photos on her Instagram account without valid authorization.

FPJ, further in its report, adds that the photos were taken in January when Lopez had attended a party which was hosted by Amazon MGM Studios, and Vanity Fair in Los Angeles. The party was hosted a day prior to the Golden Globe Awards 2025. For the occasion, she has worn a white gown with a faux fur coat. Her photos were clicked outside the Chateau Marmont, where the event was held. She had posted the photos with the caption, “GG Weekend Glamour.”

Reportedly, the agency, in its complaint, mentioned that the photos were used by the 55-year-old international celebrity to promote her public persona and increase interaction on her social media handles. They also claimed that the usage of the photos can be counted as “commercial use” since it helped her grab eyeballs for her fashion choices and brand collaborations.

Quoted by the Free Press Journal, a part of the lawsuit reads, “Ms Lopez’s unauthorised use of the Images is commercial in nature, intended for the purpose of self-promotion. For example, Ms Lopez used the Images to spotlight the designer of her clothing and jewellery, leveraging the publicity from the event to promote her fashion affiliations and brand partnerships.”

It is to be noted that this isn’t the first time Jennifer Lopez has been involved in such legal issues. She was previously sued in 2019 and 2020 for similar incidents, for unlicensed usage of professional photos. Her team is yet to issue an official statement on the entire fiasco.
