Shares of UltraTech Cement, Trent, Grasim Industries, HDFC Bank and Bajaj Finserv were the lead gainers among Nifty 50 components, while IndusInd Bank, Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, Hindalco, ICICI Bank and Coal India traded among major laggards.
IT stocks continued to drive the broader index, while other sectoral indices dropped to trade in the negative territory. Consumer durables, media, realty, PSU Bank, metal and pharma indices declined close to 2 per cent.
After opening higher, indices traded flat – Sensex traded at 78,022.11 as at 1.08 pm and Nifty 50 traded at 23,688.45.
Shares of UltraTech traded 3.50 per cent higher on the NSE as at 1.15 pm at ₹11,438.15.
Trent followed with a 2.93 per cent increase to ₹5,202.90 and Grasim Industries rose 2.42 per cent to ₹2,574.
HDFC Bank shares were up 1.76 per cent on the NSE to ₹1,831.60, after hitting an intraday high of ₹1,843.90. BFSI are in focus today after the RBI revised priority sector lending (PSL) guidelines which will take effect from April 1, 2025.
Bajaj Finserv traded 2.09 per cent higher at ₹1,933.70.

On the losing side, IndusInd plunged 5.17 per cent to ₹634.85 on receiving GST penalty of ₹30.15 crore. Track live updates on IndsuInd and Yes Bank shares here
Dr Reddy’s stock fell 3.01 per cent to ₹1,173.90 and Hindalco Industries declined 2 per cent to ₹687.45.
ICICI Bank declined 1.63 per cent to ₹1,335.95 and Coal India dropped 1.86 per cent to ₹398.45.
Of all the 2,913 stocks that were traded on the NSE at the time of writing, only 636 stocks advanced and 2,205 declined.
Bajaj Finance, Kotak Mahindra and JSW Holdings were among the 28 stocks that hit 52-week high on the NSE today.
On the BSE, HEG Ltd rallied 14 per cent, Graphite, Hatsun and Blue Dart also gained. Kirloskar Pneumatic and Kesoram Industries plunged over 9 per cent.
